| Intercollection matings among isolates of Cluvicoronu pyxidata from China and eastern North America showed that collections of this species from these geographic areas were fully intercompatible or even shared common mating type alleles, indicating that C. pyxidata from China belonged to the same biological species as North American collections. Japanese collections, however, were different from others in fruitbody appearance and basidiospord measurements. Matings between isolates of Jiapanese collections and C. pyxiduta showed that they were incompatible, indicating that the Japanese collections represented a different biological species, and reproductive isolation was accompanied by morphological variation. |
