基金项目:The 88th anniversary of somebody’s birth is called “Rice Birthday” in China, because the number “88” is equivalent to “八十八” in Chinese character, and when arranged vertically it becomes the Chinese character “米” which means “rice”. The “Tea Birthday” is the 108th anniversary of somebody’s birth in China, because the word “tea” is “茶” in Chinese character. The upper part of this character means two tens (20), and the lower part of it is also “88” as arranged vertically. So, 20 + 88 = 108. A proverb in China says that the Rice Birthday is coming and the Tea Birthday is in sight.

      The concepts of pan-fungi, fungi, and lichens, their biodiversity, and systematic biology of lichen-forming fungi with three storage and retrieval systems are discussed in this paper. A short prospect of the lichen resources is also given.
